Our U17 and U19 teams provide year-round, high-performance training for experienced high school athletes who aspire to compete at the regional and national levels. As a three-time USRowing Youth National Champion program (2022, 2024, and 2026) and a USRowing High Performance Partner, Newport Sea Base Rowing combines exceptional coaching, a competitive training environment, and a proven pathway to collegiate rowing and national-level competition. Athletes train year-round with the goal of competing at the USRowing Youth National Championships, held each June in Sarasota, Florida.

Athletes who join the Experienced Junior Racing Team become part of a culture built on commitment, sportsmanship, and continuous improvement. To ensure every athlete is placed in the training environment where they can thrive, all prospective athletes begin with a two-week assessment period.

During this assessment period, coaches evaluate each athlete's rowing technique, fitness, coachability, sportsmanship, attendance, motivation, and overall athletic potential. Basic measurements—including height, weight, and arm span—are collected, and athletes complete assessments of strength, fitness, and rowing ability while discussing their athletic goals for the season.

At the conclusion of the assessment period, coaches determine which athletes will be invited to join the team for the remainder of the fall season.
