Rowing is the oldest intercollegiate sport. In addition to the strong tradition of men's collegiate rowing, women's rowing is a major beneficiary of the enactment of Title IX. Many colleges use women's rowing as a way to achieve equivalency between males and females in athletics participation. There are over180 colleges and universities with competitive men's and women's rowing programs, many of them offer athletic scholarships or assistance through admissions.
